Brief
Increasingly severe storms are causing longer power outages and crisis situations in Estonia.
With this in mind, create experimental, creative and digital solutions that would help bring the Ole Valmis! app to young adults, taking into account current gaps in the user journey and improving the quality of the service or offering new solutions.

The research was conducted by a team of: Helen Kärt Käbin, Gabriella Tarja, Hanna Milk, Greg Mikael Juhanson, Kairiin Koddala
Research
1. As the first step of the project, we analyzed existing information, solutions, statistics about the target group, including the Ole Valmis! app in its current form.
2. We interviewed ten young adults aged 19-23 who live independently in an apartment building in the larger cities of Estonia, Tallinn or Tartu.
It was important to study this target group, as young people of this age have probably recently moved out of home but still often expect to rely on their parents in crisis situations.

Insights
The most important insights from the interviews were:
1. Young people cannot imagine a crisis, but thinking about it causes anxiety.
2. In Estonia, young people believe that the most important thing in a crisis situation is to stay at home.

Personas
The interviews resulted in two personas.
The biggest differences between them are their knowledge of how to behave in a crisis situation and the feelings or anxiety that arise regarding the topic.
The aspect that unites them is that neither has taken any steps towards preparation.

User journey
After the research phase, I continued to brainstorm the solution individually.
I set a goal to create a new solution that would support crisis preparation without causing anxiety.
To do this, I created a user journey in which the most important keywords are
guidance
personalization
smooth transitions between steps
finding the cheapest stores.

Testing
After conducting the first user tests with wireframes, I got input on which information hierarchy is logical and which causes confusion for the user.
The testing also revealed which features generate more excitement and are considered useful – thespring water map received the most positive feedback.

Solution
The final solution is an app that focuses on preparing for a crisis through positive language, friendly illustrations, and calming colors.
The idea is inspired by the emergency fund concept which in Estonian is called “peace of mind fund” – stockpiling is also about building up reserves for unexpected situations.
Since the target audience of the solution was young adults, the app also focuses on finding wallet-friendly options for obtaining supplies – you can also use food sharing pantries and spring water sources.
